30 days without alcohol — my biometric data doesn't lie
I did a 30-day alcohol-free challenge in June 2026. Not because I was a heavy drinker (2-3 glasses of wine per week), but because I wanted to see if there was a measurable health impact. Wearable data made it undeniable.
Before (May avg): RHR 72 bpm, sleep score 72, HRV 28 ms, body weight 154 lbs, deep sleep 1h12m
After (June avg): RHR 64 bpm (−8), sleep score 83 (+11), HRV 36 ms (+8), body weight 150 lbs (−4), deep sleep 1h38m (+26m)
The sleep improvement was the biggest surprise. I didn't feel like I was sleeping better, but the data showed a 36% increase in deep sleep. HRV jumped 28%, which is clinically significant for recovery and stress resilience.
I've reintroduced one glass of wine per week in July. So far the trends are holding. The lesson: even moderate alcohol consumption has a measurable impact on sleep architecture and cardiovascular recovery. Not a moral judgment — just data.
