Logan Reeves
Editorial Director, Health Calculator
Background
I'm Logan Reeves, Editorial Director at Health Calculator and across our small network of niche publications. My job is the quality layer that sits between subject-matter experts and the published page — I run the editorial workflow, enforce sourcing standards, and personally fact-check every article before it goes live or gets re-reviewed.
Before this role I spent eight years as a senior editor at two mid-sized lifestyle and trade publications, where I built out their fact-checking workflows from scratch. My specialty is the gap between "technically true" and "actually useful" — making sure articles don't just pass copy editing but actually help the reader make a decision.
Editorial Principles I Hold Our Writers To
1. Every claim has a traceable source
If a writer says "studies show," I ask which study. If they cite a number, I want a primary source (.gov, .edu, manufacturer spec sheet, audited financial filing — not a competitor's blog post).
2. The author has lived experience in the subject
Our domain authors (Dr. Marcus Chen, MD, FACP — Chief Medical Reviewer) bring decades of hands-on practice. I don't run articles written by people who only researched the topic — only by people who've actually done the work.
3. Anti-pattern disclosure
We tell readers what NOT to do, what's overhyped, and what to skip. Articles that only sell a positive view get sent back for revision. Honest assessment beats marketing every time.
4. AI-assisted, human-verified
We use AI tools for research speed and first drafts. Every published article is then reviewed by the domain expert (the bylined author) and fact-checked by me before publishing. See our AI content policy for specifics.
5. Dated and re-reviewed
Every article shows a "Last Reviewed" date. Pricing, product lineups, regulations, and statistics get re-verified on a rolling 90-day schedule. Outdated content is either updated or unpublished.
What I Actually Do on a Given Article
- Verify every named product, brand, and price still exists at the time of publish
- Check every statistic against its primary source
- Read the article aloud once to catch generic AI phrasing ("In conclusion", "It's important to note", etc.) and send it back if I find it
- Ensure the article actually answers the question someone would type into Google to find it — not the topic-adjacent question that's easier to write about
- Confirm the author's stated expertise is reflected in the writing (specific anecdotes, named tools, real failure stories — not just generic advice)
The Bylined Author at Health Calculator
The domain author whose name appears on most articles in this site is Dr. Marcus Chen, MD, FACP — Chief Medical Reviewer. My role is to support and verify their work, not to replace their voice or expertise.
