Client lost 12 lbs in 8 weeks — stopped counting calories

Client Rachel lost 12 lbs in 8 weeks. She stopped counting calories and started tracking two things: protein (140g/day) and sleep (7+ hours). Body fat down 3.2%.

Rachel came to me frustrated. She'd been counting calories for 6 months, lost 8 lbs, then plateaued. She was eating 1,400 calories/day but not losing. Her metabolism had adapted.

I told her to stop counting calories. Instead, track two things:

1. Protein: Hit 140g/day (0.8g per lb of body weight). This preserves muscle during weight loss.

2. Sleep: Get 7+ hours per night. Poor sleep increases hunger hormones.

She didn't restrict calories. She just ate until satisfied, prioritizing protein at each meal.

Results after 8 weeks:

Weight: 168 lbs → 156 lbs (-12 lbs)

Body fat: 32% → 28.8% (-3.2%)

Waist: 38" → 35.5" (-2.5")

Energy: "I don't crash at 3pm anymore."

She's still losing weight at week 10. No plateau. The key wasn't eating less — it was eating better (more protein) and sleeping more.

TL;DR: Rachel lost 12 lbs in 8 weeks by tracking protein (140g/day) and sleep (7+ hours), not calories. Body fat down 3.2%.
